Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is on the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines, and is known as one of the most effec- tive and safe medicines. It’s also called “laughing gas” – because it causes you to disassociate from your surroundings, and has a euphoric effect (which can make some people get the giggles).
